Children must use a car seat until they’re 12 years old or 135cm tall, depending on what comes first.
What car seat does my child need?Child car seats are categorised into groups based on the weight of your child.
0kg to 10kg (Group 0) - This is a lie-flat or a ‘lateral baby baby carrier, rear-facing baby carrier, or a rear-facing baby seat using a harness.
0kg to 13kg (Group 0+) - These are rear-facing baby carriers or rear-facing baby seats using a harness.
9kg to 18kg (Group 1) - Group 1 car seats are rear or forward-facing baby seats using a harness or safety shield.
15kg to 25kg (Group 2) - Group 2 car seats are rear or forward-facing car seats (high-backed booster seat or booster cushion) using a seat belt, harness or a safety shield.
22kg to 36kg (Group 3) - The third and final group are rear or forward-facing car seats (high-backed booster seat or booster cushion) using a seat belt, harness or safety shield.
