Recycle - Don't throw your old electrical stuff in the bin!

If your buying a new electrical item and wondering what to do with your old one then please read this page. You can no longer throw old electrical items or batteries into the wheelie bin - this is set down in the Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2007. These regulations were created to ensure all countries in the EU make every possible effort to separate harmful electrical waste and ensure it's safely recycled.

Recycle and help the environment

Old and unwanted electrical items are the fastest form of waste in the UK.

Recycling your old electrical products is great for the environment - they can be broken down and reused as lots of cool new things. It also reduces our need to mine new metals and make new chemicals.

In the past old gadgets were left on landfill sites to poison the soil, water and air. This causes harm to both human and animal life in your area.

How can you play your part?

As a responsible retailer we want to help you protect the environment by offering you the chance to recycle your old electrical gadgets and gizmos.

Like many other retailers we contribute to the Distributor Take-back Scheme (DTS), which is working to create a UK wide recycling network. This will make it even easier to recycle your old electrical kit.

We're sorry but we aren't able to offer this as a free service at the moment.

Alternatively you can take your old items to your local council waste centre.

What can be recycled?

Any old electrical equipment can be recycled. To make life easier you'll find the crossed out wheelie bin symbol on any product made from 2007 onwards. This reminds you that you need to recycle your item and throw it in the normal waste bin.

Batteries

You will also need to recycle all batteries that you need to throw away, including laptop, mobile phone, hearing aid, watch and any other type of battery. Your local council will have battery recycling and local household waste centers
